The Call At The National Mall in Washington, DC August 16 http://www.thecall.com A brief glance at the headlines of our daily newspapers exposes the frailty of the moral fabric of our nation as the corruption of sin digs its claws deeper and deeper into the hearts and minds of our young people. Abortion continues to claim over 1.6 million unborn lives every year in the U.S., wiping out nearly one-third of an entire generation born since 1973. The growing slave trade of pornography, homosexuality, human trafficking, and sexual perversion (not only accepted by the culture, but now shamelessly promoted by it) has claimed countless young men and women, pilfering the Kingdom of the Lord's inheritance. In 2000, 400,000 people, both young and old, gathered on the National Mall in Washington, DC to fast and pray believing the dream that a nation can change. That gathering and many others have imprinted tens of thousands of young people, initiating a 24-hour prayer revolution and inspiring a dream in their hearts that they could be a voice and real agents for change. Our nation continues in crisis and we feel it is time for TheCall to go to a national scale in another historic gathering in our nation's capital. TheCall isn't a conference or a festival; it is a solemn assembly; a gathering of all ages, races and denominations. The 12 hours of TheCall are spent primarily before the Lord in the place of repentance, prayer, and worship. The hour is late and the time is urgent. Our nation is in desperate need of revival. We are seeing some signs of God moving, but we do not have what we need. Full-scale revival is only ushered in through the collective body of Christ uniting in repentance and prevailing prayer. When there seems to be no remedy, when there seems to be no hope for a nation, God still has a holy prescription . . . God has a dream. "Blow the trumpet in Zion, gather the people, call a fast." (Joel 2:12-18) See you from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the DC National Mall on Saturday, August 16th! Pre-Call conferences are also convening. -Gary Bergel, IFA President, TheCall DC Advisory Council |

TEENAGERS AROUND THE WORLD EMBRACE RELIGION The majority of teens and young adults in most parts of the world are religious according to a 21-country study by a German think tank. Of the 21,000 youth surveyed worldwide, 85 percent described themselves as religious and nearly half said they were deeply religious. Thirteen percent said they were not interested in God or faith. Among young Americans, 57 percent said they pray daily. Dr. Martin Rieger, project leader of the survey, said: "The assumption that religious belief is dwindling continuously from generation to generation is clearly refuted by our worldwide surveys - even in many industrialized nations." On the heels of the survey, hundreds of thousands of religious youth from around the world are gathering this week in Sydney, Australia for the 23rd World Youth Day - an invitation from the pope to youth to celebrate their faith. The six-day celebration is the largest youth event in the world. (CitizenLink 7/17/08) World Youth Day http://www.wyd2008.org/ |

TEXAS LEADS NATION IN ABSTINENCE EDUCATION 22 states have rejected federal funding for key programs Texas spent $17 million in federal funding last year for abstinence-education programs - more than any other state. Public schools in Texas that choose to offer sex education must focus on abstinence, according to state standards. Family advocates want parents, not schools, to talk to their teens about contraception. "Can you imagine being a parent and having your child come home and tell you all the ways they learned in school that you can (have sex)?" Republican Rep. Rob Eissler told The Austin American-Statesman. "I think it would be an implicit encouragement instead of an explicit discouragement." Linda Klepacki, sexual health analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said abstinence programs teach and equip students on diverse topics, including: relationship skills, STIs, HIV, refusal skills, body-image issues, emotional bonding, differences between men and women, condom effectiveness, teen pregnancy and the benefits of marriage. NAACP CHALLENGED TO SEE ABORTION'S COST TO BLACK AMERICA 'Biggest struggle for civil rights today is for the rights of the unborn' A coalition of black pastors, activists and leaders has challenged the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to oppose a "slick racist," Margaret Sanger, and her life's work, the abortion-industry leader Planned Parenthood. Day Gardner, president of the National Black Pro-Life Union and one of the leaders protesting at this week's NAACP convention in Cincinnati, said, "the biggest struggle for civil rights today is for the civil rights of the unborn child." Gardner said she is hopeful the protest will show the NAACP how many black Americans have very strong feelings about this issue. The issue isn't hard for her supporters to explain: Nearly half of black babies conceived in America today are aborted, and a black woman is three times more likely to have an abortion than her white counterpart. "It's very disappointing that the NAACP has not taken a leadership role in making this horrible practice a thing of the past," she said. "Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger, was a slick racist. She initiated an evil plot to eliminate the Negro population called the Negro Project in 1939," Gardner said. "Planned Parenthood was founded in hate and racism and we know that still today. It has not strayed from its racist roots."
